The twenty-five years old BRANKO PETROVIC from Serbia is a young enthusiastic and motivated freediver.
His great passion for freediving is bringing him, in almost no time, on top of the world in static apnea.

In a few weeks he has been able to increase his PB by about 2 minutes, and his exponential growth to even longer holds bring nothing but awe in all who, like us, love freediving and know the factors involved in similar performance levels.

I'd like to emphasize that Branko, in his videos, has so far offered an awesome resumption of breathing at the end of his holds, pointing out the security features and undisputed rules of fairness that should be expressed in every attempt, especially in high-level ones.

In his words we read the memorable breathold with which he debuted in this braand new year.
Season' best performance, of course, as well as personal best:

12 minutes and 11 seconds on-just-one-breath!

A GREAT DAY your January 7th, 2012...
"The test conditions were very hard on Saturday 7.
I had limited availability of the pool, after a party with stale air and high temperature. I had little time, for just a single attempt, and I had to proceed very quickly. I thought that I would not have done the job under those conditions, but after opening a few windows, the situation improved.

As in Serbia there are no CMAS judges, I chose the supervision of judges AIDA Aleksandar Karjuk, international judge, and Sandra Dinic, national judge.
The CMAS is the nearest international judge in Croatia, and Vedran Milat would not be back until March. In addition I had no money to pay for the trip to Belgrade judge's CMAS

The static of the new record is 12 minutes and 11 seconds: I have lived like like any other training. No thoughts, I dipped into my world of peace and the time has elapsed.
Contractions started at about 7 minutes and 30 seconds, it went better than the Zagreb attempt, where the first arrived at 6 minutes and 8 seconds. From the video you would ever know this, because I always look the same throughout the breathold.

After the record I was extremely happy, and I immediately thought I have to go over this new limit!
The time achieved is still not good enough, I said to myself, but I follow my instincts, which always guides me and guides me to safety telling me when to come out. I have a sort of communication with my body, which allows me to always be aware of everything that is happening, and tells me when it's time to catch my breath. This way I can get the thing to me is more important: coming out with an absolutely clear protocol, perfectly executed!
Now I'm going to start some training cycles to achieve even longer statics. I actually have no idea where I can get: within 8 months I almost doubled my PB!

NEWS IN YOUR STATIC TRAINING?
Lately I've been training less than before the Tenerife CMAS WC Submania Cup, and now I simply dedicate the training sessions to the proper execution of the protocol.

I am currently experimenting with brand new approaches to training in statics.
Some very good advice I received from Eric Fattah and Vedrana Vidovic, and this has given new perspective to my breathhold. I thank them very much for this. So I started some experiments.

I chose 7 people, very similar to me: 3 men and 4 women of various ages, abilities, of different countries and continents. I tested my theories with them, and this has made my practice a lot easier, since I was no longer alone doing this by myself.
The results were fantastic! A girl has improved her PB from 4 min to 05:24 the very same day, while others have improved by about 1 minute only changing the technical approach to their static. Do you think this girl is now close to 7 minutes! Even men have achieved great results in a few weeks: some went from 5 to 7:30, while a beginner novice rose from 2min to 5min.
The experiment consisted in the fact that each of them practiced a different kind of training, so that I too have been able to verify and test the most suitable to me: changing the rules of their training to help them improve. My aim was to demonstrate that we are far from the limits of apnea in general! It 'still all related to training: it will take time before genetics plays a role as is happening today in other sports.
So I hope to change some little wrong things in my training, at least from my point of view. In this way, I am convinced that I will be able to get the top shape faster, better times and better results in all disciplines of apnea.

YOUR MENTAL TRAINING
I do not practice mental training. I think now it is just an instinctive approach for me, after years of spearfishing. Before the static attempt i do not hear or see anyone around me. It 'a wonderful feeling! I feel the beating of my heart slows down and the brain is turned off.
So far I've only had the feeling of being able to stop the heart for 10 seconds on my will, but now I'm learning to do so voluntarily.

BRANKO ATHLETE of 2012?
I would put a little 'mystery' on my next goals, so that I will have little pressure on me in bringing them forward. One day I will realize them and you will know, as I have always done. But I  want you to expect very interesting things...

I am waiting for ratification of the new record: it's standard procedure. I hope it will take only few days.
About upcoming events in the competitions, I really don't know. My budget is low, and I need sponsorship from CMAS Serbia or AIDA Serbia".
